No Rx Hyzaar
American Psychosis What happens to a society that cannot distinguish between reality and illusion? Chris Hedges The United States, no rx hyzaar locked in the kind of twilight disconnect that grips dying empires, no rx hyzaar is a country entranced by illusions. No rx hyzaar It (my add: 'it' being the media ) spends its emotional and intellectual energy on the trivial and the absurd. No rx hyzaar It is captivated by the hollow stagecraft of celebrity culture as the walls crumble. No rx hyzaar This celebrity culture giddily licenses a dark voyeurism into other people’s humiliation, no rx hyzaar pain, no rx hyzaar weakness and betrayal. No rx hyzaar Day after day, no rx hyzaar one lurid saga after another, no rx hyzaar whether it is Michael Jackson, no rx hyzaar Britney Spears or John Edwards, no rx hyzaar enthralls the country … despite bank collapses, no rx hyzaar wars, no rx hyzaar mounting poverty or the criminality of its financial class. The virtues that sustain a nation-state and build community, no rx hyzaar from honesty to self-sacrifice to transparency to sharing, no rx hyzaar are ridiculed each night on television as rubes stupid enough to cling to this antiquated behavior are voted off reality shows. No rx hyzaar Fellow competitors for prize money and a chance for fleeting fame, no rx hyzaar cheered on by millions of viewers, no rx hyzaar elect to “disappear†the unwanted. No rx hyzaar In the final credits of the reality show America’s Next Top Model, no rx hyzaar a picture of the woman expelled during the episode vanishes from the group portrait on the screen. No rx hyzaar Those cast aside become, no rx hyzaar at least to the television audience, no rx hyzaar nonpersons. No rx hyzaar Celebrities that can no longer generate publicity, no rx hyzaar good or bad, no rx hyzaar vanish. No rx hyzaar Life, no rx hyzaar these shows persistently teach, no rx hyzaar is a brutal world of unadulterated competition and a constant quest for notoriety and attention. Our culture of flagrant self-exaltation, no rx hyzaar hardwired in the American character, no rx hyzaar permits the humiliation of all those who oppose us. No rx hyzaar We believe, no rx hyzaar after all, no rx hyzaar that because we have the capacity to wage war we have a right to wage war. No rx hyzaar Those who lose deserve to be erased. No rx hyzaar Those who fail, no rx hyzaar those who are deemed ugly, no rx hyzaar ignorant or poor, no rx hyzaar should be belittled and mocked. No rx hyzaar Human beings are used and discarded like Styrofoam boxes that held junk food. No rx hyzaar And the numbers of superfluous human beings are swelling the unemployment offices, no rx hyzaar the prisons and the soup kitchens. It is the cult of self that is killing the United States. No rx hyzaar This cult has within it the classic traits of psychopaths: superficial charm, no rx hyzaar grandiosity and self-importance; a need for constant stimulation; a penchant for lying, no rx hyzaar deception and manipulation; and the incapacity for remorse or guilt. And this is also the ethic promoted by corporations. No rx hyzaar It is the ethic of unfettered capitalism. No rx hyzaar It is the misguided belief that personal style and personal advancement, no rx hyzaar mistaken for individualism, no rx hyzaar are the same as democratic equality. No rx hyzaar I It is the nationwide celebration of image over substance, no rx hyzaar of illusion over truth.
